How To Promote Your Podcast On Twitter

Twitter is a great way to promote your podcast. You can reach new listeners, engage with your existing audience, and build buzz around your show. If you're wondering how to promote your podcast on Twitter, here is what works: link your profile to your podcast, engage with potential sponsors or guests, repurpose your podcast, tweet consistently, don't put links into your first tweet, and use hashtags.

Let us dive a bit deeper into each one.

Link to your podcast from your profile.

Twitter has drastically reduced the reach of tweets with external links, just like any other social platform. That's why we're seeing so many Twitter threads these days. So if you want to share links directly, do NOT put them into the first tweet but write a meaningful thread.

Even better, though, is to use Twitter the way it is intended to be used - for conversations on the platform. Write tweets that inspire Twitter users to check out your profile and treat your profile like a landing page. You can place a link to your podcast in your bio or in the URL field on your profile.

By doing that, I made Twitter my main traffic source for this website.

Use hashtags.

Hashtags are a great way to get your tweets seen by more people. That's why when you're thinking about how to promote your podcast on Twitter, hashtags are vital. When you use relevant hashtags, you can reach new listeners who are interested in your topic. For example, if you have a podcast about dogs, you could use the hashtag #doglovers.

The first step is to brainstorm a list of keywords that describe your podcast. For example, if you have a gaming podcast, some relevant keywords might be "gaming," "video games," or "esports." Once you have a list of keywords, you can start searching for related hashtags on Twitter.

But don't jump straight into the conversations of those hashtags yet if you want to effectively promote your podcast on Twitter. Instead, research first how often each hashtag gets used using hashtag directories or tools like https://checkmyhashtag.com/.

You want to make sure you're using popular hashtags to get your tweets seen but not so popular that your tweets get lost in the noise.

Follow relevant accounts.

Following relevant accounts to your podcast will help you get in front of a new audience. For example, if you have a food podcast, you could follow food bloggers, chefs, and food companies. They might retweet your content or even be guests on your show!

My best tip is to set up a private list of those accounts that could serve as potential guests or sponsors for your podcast - and engage with these accounts every single week.

By adding them to a private list and following these accounts, you create a separate timeline only for their tweets. It's important that you turn on notifications for new tweets from those accounts so that you're one of the first to respond. That will allow all future respondees to see your tweet in the list of responses and therefore gives more exposure to your response and profile.

Set aside 20-30 minutes at least twice weekly and communicate with those accounts. Build relationships, and you'll see that those accounts will start helping you to promote your podcast on Twitter.

Engage with other tweets.

When you see relevant tweets to your podcast, make sure to like and share them! This will help you get on the radar of those who wrote those tweets, and they may start following you back. And don't forget to @mention people when appropriate - this is a great way to start a conversation.

Being clever about engaging with others is super important because you'll easily waste time and get sucked into conversations on Twitter.

I am a big Hypefury user, and their "Engagement Builder" makes it easy to stay on task while networking with important accounts:

Twitter is designed to suck you into arguments - and being in arguments is not helpful when you're learning how to promote your podcast on Twitter.

Instead, you need to strategically network with potential guests and sponsors, with your fans, and repurpose your podcast episodes into tweets, graphics, and videos. Hypefury lets you not just build engagement with ease but also lets you automatically plug your podcast when one of your tweets gets attention from your audience. How cool is that?

Run giveaways and contests.

Everyone loves free stuff! Running giveaways and contests is a great way to engage with your audience and get them excited about your podcast. For example, you could ask people to tweet about why they are listening to your show using a specific hashtag. Then, randomly select a winner to receive a prize (like a gift certificate or merchandise).

Or you can ask your followers to share their favorite takeaways from your most recent episode, tagging the guest and yourself in their tweet to qualify for the giveaway.

Share behind-the-scenes content.

Your followers will love getting a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes of your podcast. Share photos and videos from your recording sessions, and give people a sneak peek of what's to come. This will help build anticipation for your upcoming episodes and keep people engaged with your show.

One way to share behind-the-scenes content is to post photos and videos from your recording sessions. This will give your followers a glimpse into what goes on in the studio. You can also share sneak peeks of upcoming episodes to build anticipation for your listeners. Or you can post some outtakes and recordings gone wrong to give your followers a good laugh.

Use paid advertising.

Paid advertising on Twitter is a great way to reach even more people with your message, so when we're talking about how to promote your podcast on Twitter, paid advertising has to be a part of that conversation.

You can target potential listeners based on their interests, location, and even the type of accounts they're following. Yes, you can target lookalike followers of relevant big accounts. For example, for your CrossFit podcast, you could target followers of @crossfitjournal or @CrossFitGames.

Of course, regular targeting options like hashtags or retargeting are also available. I've seen engagements on tweets for fractions of a cent, which is way cheaper than what you could get on other platforms.

It is important to learn how to promote your podcast on Twitter because it's a great way to reach new listeners and engage with your existing audience. By using hashtags, following relevant accounts, engaging with other tweets, running giveaways and contests, and using paid advertising, you can give your podcast the boost it needs to succeed!
